Understanding What MCT Oil Is

It is all out in the open that using coconut oil is a great source of getting healthy fats which can also be used for other purposes such as cooking and beauty products. But what most people are not aware of is the fact that MCT oil is of similar type but the difference is that, it’s more concentrated and offering more benefits.

The medium chain triglycerides or simply MCT are fatty acids of a certain length. The MCT oil is a kind of oil made from different kinds of these MCTs. It’s basically a translucent and tasteless liquid. All fats have carbon as well as hydrogen however, they vary in length. By definition, these short fatty acids have 5 or even fewer carbons, medium chains have 6 to 12 and long chains have more than 12. MCT is considered to be beneficial for the body and it is digesting fats easily than having to metabolize it through digestion much like other foods we eat. As a matter of fact, these fats are being processed in the liver.

There are several other types of fatty acids that fall under MCFA or Medium Chain Fatty Acids. Some of these fats include dodecanoic or the lauric acid, dacanoic acid or capric acid, octanoic acid or caprylic acid and hexaonic acid or caproic acid. Basically, the KetoMCT oil is a combination of these MCFAs which is extracted often from palm oil or coconut oil to which both are rich natural sources. The MCFAs can be found too in dairy products such as cheese and butter, goat’s milk and even human breast milk.

Regardless if it’s consumed concentrated or whole from palm or coconut oil, MCT oil provides lots of benefits and two of them are discussed below.

Easier Digestion – MCTs don’t actually need bile salts to be digested and it can pass directly from the digestive system of the body to the blood without being altered by the long chain fats in digestion. This makes it simpler to digest and use than the long chain fatty acids. Look for more information about MCT Oil at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCT.

Good Energy Source – since MCT oils are processed in the liver, they are absorbed quickly and at the same time, provide fast and sustained energy. MCTs move passively through the hepatic portal system to the liver without going through the longer digestive process. In comparison to other food types, MCTs don’t need energy for it to be absorbed, stored or used, making it the best candidate for getting natural energy source, discover here!
